IMPORTANCE OF HOME WATER TANKS

Water tanks are immensely used by various sectors such as domestic, industrial and commercial. But here we are dwelling upon domestic or home water tanks.  On the home front, water tanks play a pivotal role in keeping our life hassle-free by ensuring the availability of enough water for drinking, cleaning, cooking, and washing. Water is the basis of life and there is no existence of life without water.  If such is the importance of water, we need to conserve, preserve and protect it, and it can be done by storing the water in water tanks.

While deciding to purchase a water tank for our home, we need to keep various things in mind and we must be well aware of everything about the water storage tanks. The following factors need to be considered before making the home water tank purchasing decision:

1. Size: Consider the size of the tank based on your water usage needs and the space you have available for installing the tank. The choice of size entirely depends on your water consumption and family members. Home water tanks are available in various sizes starting from 500 Ltr.

2. Layers:  Several layers in a water tank play a pivotal role in helping to improve the efficiency and quality of the tank. Different layers have their own characteristics and purposes.  Layers also help to prevent the mixing of different types of water, which is important for water quality and safety. Apart from it, layers reduce the risk of contamination and improve the overall cleanliness of the tank.

(i) Single-layered or the outer layer:  This layer is often made of a strong and durable material such as polyethylene, which helps to protect the tank from external damage.

(ii) Double layered or the middle layer:  It is the ‘core’ of the tank and is usually made of a material that is resistant to water and helps to prevent leaks.

(iii) Triple-layered or the inner layer: The inner layer of a water tank is mostly made of a food-grade material helping to ensure that the water stored in the tank is safe to drink.

(iv) Four layered: This layer has a weather-resistant layer helping to maintain the temperature of water against environmental temperature.

(v) Five-layered and six-layered: Apart from these layers, water tanks may also have additional layers which help to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in the water, and insulation, which helps to keep the water at a stable temperature. The fifth or sixth layer of the water tank provides more features.

3. Material: Water tanks are made from a variety of materials, including plastic, fiberglass, and metal etc. Each material has its own benefits. You need to decide on the material according to your budget.

4. Location: It is about where you want to install your water tank.If you have limited space, an underground tank might be a good option but, if you have enough space, an above-ground tank or overhead water tank willbe more suitable.

5. Price: It is one of the most important factors determining your budget. Purchasing a tank is a long-term investment so one should try to purchase a good water tank that is durable and made of food-grade material that is non-toxic and safe for consumption.

6. Colour: Home water tanks are available in different colours such as white, black, yellow, green, blue etc.

(i) Black water tank prevents the light from entering the interior matter where photosynthesis may lead to the development of algae and the diffusion of light-sensitive microbes.  Black water tanks are more resistant to UV light and more durable.

(ii) White water tank reflects sunlight, reducing water temperature and limiting the growth of algae. They also easily blend with the surroundings and do not require painting.

(iii) Yellow water tank provides several benefits, including increased visibility for safety purposes. They also offer UV protection to help extend the lifespan of the tank.

(iv) Green water tank provides environment-friendly water storage solutions. They also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the conservation of natural resources.

(v) Blue water tanks are made of a special material that prevents the growth of algae making them ideal for storing drinking water. They are also resistant to UV rays and easy to clean and maintain and durable, which makes them a cost-effective choice for customers.

7. Maintenance: It is also to be considered before making a home water tank decision as some tanks may require more frequent cleaning and maintenance than others.

8. Warranty: Always check the warranty of the home water tank as it will give you peace of mind and protect your investment in case something goes wrong with the tank.

9. Brand reputation: Sometimes customers get confused seeing the myriad of water tank manufacturing companies. In such circumstances, we should always try to do some research on the brand and go through the reviews from other customers to get a sense of the quality and reliability of their products.

10. Lid of water tank: A well-designed lid prevents unwanted access and contamination of the stored water. A sturdy lid also prevents wind from blowing the lid off and allowing dust and debris to enter the tank and pollute the water.

By considering these factors, you will be able to find a water tank that meets your needs and fits within your budget.
